We just got back from a stay at Rainell and I can not sing enough praises about how wonderful our stay was there. First, the hotel itself. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the hotel’s owner who was working the check-in desk. We stayed in the Pano Room, which had beautiful views of Ortisei and the surrounding mountains. I am very particular about cleanliness in hotel rooms, and this hotel exceeded all of my expectations. Our room was spacious, so very clean, and had simple yet elegant and modern decor. The terrace in the Pano Room was also such a beautiful place to start our morning and end our days looking over Ortisei and the gorgeous mountains surrounding it. Next, the food! If you are able, I HIGHLY suggest choosing the half-board option. Breakfast included a great spread, and the staff was kind to let us make sandwiches each morning that we could take on our hikes. Dinner at the hotel was an experience in itself, comparable to eating at a Michelin star restaurant. Each night featured different dishes for their 4 course meal, which also included a salad buffet (not just salad, but other appetizer style items as well such as pizza, raw oysters, and pasta bake to name a few). We enjoyed being able to try different dishes each night, and every single one of them was delicious. Each afternoon they also had a “snack hour” where they served homemade desserts such as strudel and cannoli, which we highly enjoyed after coming back from hiking every day. Finally, the service. I can not emphasize enough how amazing the service at this hotel is. You can often see the owner of the hotel and his children around the grounds, touching things up, talking to guests, and making sure their stay is going well. For meals, they sit you at the same table every day and for the most part you have the same server for each meal. Although we were helped by all of the servers, Mihaela and Alex were our main ones, and both were amazing. A super huge shout out to all of the hotel employees, as each of them were so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. As many others have stated, there is a walk up a hill to get to the hotel. It did get me a bit winded a few times, but there is a bus each hour that picks you up from the bottom of the hill to take you to the hotel, and vice versa. The walk up the hill is completely worth being away from the busyness, crowds, and sounds of the town, and so is the view of the town. The hotel is in close proximity to everything you might want to do in Ortisei— it is about a 5 minute walk to the Alpe de Siusi cable car, 10 minutes to the Seceda cable car, and 15 from the Resciesa funicular. Once at the hotel, we did not have to use our car at all. If you’ve gotten to this point in my long review, I shouldn’t have to tell you to book this hotel. It should be rated 5 stars instead of 4, and is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. My husband can attest that on our last night, I was very sad to be leaving this hotel that somehow made us feel like family in the span of 5 days. We will no doubt recommend this hotel to anyone that is visiting Ortisei, and hope to come back someday. Thank you to the Mahlknect family and all of the wonderful staff at Rainell for such an amazing stay.
